Leadership development + High Impact Tutoring = Transformed Literacy Outcomes

TRANSFORMING THE LITERACY LANDSCAPE THROUGH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

We aim to transform the reading landscape in the Wisconsin by empowering school leaders with the knowledge and skills required to be instructional leaders in their school. We aim to transform the landscape by:

  • Developing a cohort of school leaders who are passionate about transforming the reading landscape in their schools and districts and are equipped to do so

  • Creating a common vision for high quality literacy instruction that is aligned with the Science of Reading

  • Preparing school leaders with the knowledge to create systems and tools to ensure consistent, aligned high quality instruction in their schools

  • Providing school leaders with a range of tools to proactively address pushback and challenges from stakeholders, educators, and families—including how to address resistance and barriers

TRANSFORMING LITERACY OUTCOMES WITH 1:1 TUTORING

All 95 Wisconsin participants implement 1:1 virtual tutoring for 40 or more students in their school. This tutoring is provided by OpenLiteracy.

OpenLiteracy is a results-driven virtual tutoring company that provides schools with experienced, certified teachers for during the school day or before- or after-school 1:1 tutoring.  They specialize in building school-based partnerships focused on strategic alignment, effective communication, and shared accountability. Their outcome data suggests that students can make at least 2 years of growth in literacy with 1 year of tutoring (and more if attendance is over 85%). Our tutors receive carefully designed training that closely aligns with the research on supporting English Language learners, and meeting the needs of students with disabilities.
